As part of our “Empowering Women for Peace and Development in South Asia”, co-funded by EU in India, women conflict survivors from the Northeast and from Bangladesh have been attending weaving and bamboo craft trainings, that aimed to empower them economically. In addition, these women have been involved in human rights and conflict resolution activities; the ultimate goal of the project is to ensure the inclusion of women in the peace-building processes in the region.
Last week, in parallel to a very successful “South Asia Women’s Peace and Security Conference”, our partner CAFI organized the Ima Keither Mothers’ Bazaar, an exhibition of the products that women from the Northeast and from Bangladesh (brought to Delhi by our partner ANANDO) produced as part of their training. The exhibition was inaugurated by Ms Marina Walter from UNDP in India.
All these women have a story that speaks of loss, pain and suffering – but through the project, and the strength they found by coming together, they have gained new hope and are spreading a message of peace and non-violence.
